TOUR DESCRIPTION
When you think or talk about Paris, it is impossible not to mention one of its most famous symbols: the hill of Montmartre. This neighborhood is a captivating blend of factors that make it truly unique. Its narrow streets and hidden alleys, its rich artistic history, the imposing Basilica of the Sacred Heart, and the breathtaking view of Paris make Montmartre a must-see during your stay.
Meet our guide at the base of the hill, right in front of the legendary Moulin Rouge. From here, we will begin a pleasant ascent, delving into the traditions, lifestyle, and bohemian character of Montmartre. As we climb, you will hear about the rich history and artistic heritage that define this storied neighborhood. We will visit the Moulin de la Galette, reflecting on Paris’ 19th-century urban growth and the emergence of lively venues that cemented the city’s nightlife reputation. Our journey continues to the Bâteau Lavoir, where artists like Picasso developed their styles, earning it the nickname ‘the birthplace of cubism.’ Stroll past the former homes of Picasso and Van Gogh, understanding Montmartre’s profound influence on these renowned painters. You will also see the famous Maison Rose, immortalized by artists like Picasso and Utrillo.
During this fascinating stroll, we offer an optional stop at one of Montmartre’s top cheese shops. Here, you can relax with a superb selection of French cheeses and discuss their history. Continuing our walk, your guide will lead you to the lively Place du Tertre, where hundreds of artists gather daily to paint and draw.
Our final stop is the beautiful Basilica of the Sacred Heart, standing at the summit of Montmartre, the highest point in the city. From here, the panoramic view of Paris is simply spectacular. The Romano-Byzantine features of this church stand in sharp contrast to the Gothic architecture of other Parisian landmarks. The steps of the Sacred Heart are now a gathering point for street musicians, offering a perfect spot to observe the blend of Montmartre’s bohemian atmosphere and its religious history.
The tour concludes in the heart of Montmartre, and you will likely find it hard to leave this enchanting district. Take your time to explore further, shop, or capture memorable photos, creating lasting memories of this enchanting district. Join us for an unforgettable journey through Montmartre, where history, art, and culture converge.
